Warrenmount Girls Senior Team Update

Players from 4th, 5th and 6th classes have been training really hard every Monday in preparation for the 2023 soccer season. It kicked off last week in St Catherine's Community Centre at the 29th Annual Dublin 8 Schools Blitz organised by Garda Liam and our local Kevin Street Garda Station.

The girls were in a group with Canal Way ETNS, The Oblates, St Patrick's Grammar School and St Catherine's. We won three games and drew one to qualify for the semi final against Goldenbridge. The girls made it to the final with a 1-0 win. A rematch with The Oblates served up a very even and entertaining final, Warrenmount just couldn't find the net and lost the game 1-0.

We had a great day and the whole team played amazing football, our goalkeeper Mia Leonard was voted overall player of the tournament.

Team: Mia, Asciel, Asayah, Gabi, Maisie Jane, Alesha, Jasmin.

Stepaside ETNS 0

The Warrenmount Blues made the journey to Stepaside to play their first cup game this year. The weather conditions were very difficult with strong winds, low temperatures and heavy rain. The girls didn't let the elements hold them back as they played some brilliant football and scored 7 goals. They defended really well in the second half to keep a clean sheet and score two goals on the break.

The draw for the quarter final takes place next week.

Team: Mia, Asciel, Asayah, Gabi, Maisie Jane, Alesha, Indie, Jasmin, Zilan, Danielle, Mys, Pansy, Leyda.

Unfortunately the girls lost our first round league game 8-3 against a very strong Springfield N.S. Losing at the break the girls battled back and scored 3 goals in a row to cut the deficit in half. We were so unlucky with a number of efforts on goal and the Springfield goalkeeper made a few really great saves. The highlight of the game was a brilliant team goal finished off by Indie after superb build up play from our defence and midfield and a wonderful cross from Gabi. We are so proud of how the girls battled until the very end and never gave up, they were also very gracious in defeat and made sure to shake hands with everyone on the other team. Well done girls!!

The Warrenmount Blues got back to winning ways on Thursday with a 2-0 league win over St Joseph's Co-Ed Fairview. Goals from Maisie Jane and Indie in the first half were enough to secure the three points. The girls used the game to work on their passing and players got the opportunity to play in different positions. Tom the referee and the St Joseph's coach also remarked on the girl's excellent fair play and sportswomanship throughout the game. Zilan captained the team and continued her super encouragement and positive vibes towards her teammates. We even managed to make it back to school without getting caught in the rain!!! Ms Kennedy said it was a great day all round!! The girls also got the chance to perform their Mbappe celebration after the game.

We have been drawn against Lucan East ETNS in round 2 of the cup.

The game will take place in Bluebell at 1pm on Tuesday March 28th, we will return to school at 3pm. All support welcome!! Thank you to all the parents who have been able to come and support us so far this year.

The Ringsend 5 asdie blitz will take place on March 30th. We will have an early start at 8:30am. Further details to follow!!

FAI Dublin Schools 5 aside Blitz

On Thursday April 22nd the Warrenmount Blues played in the FAI Schools 5 aside blitz in Irishtown Stadium, Ringsend. We had an early start and a big thank you to all the girls and their parents for ensuring that everyone made it to school at 8:30am.

We entered two teams in the competition and both performed brilliantly on the day. Ms O'Reillys team won one, drew one and lost one in their group and unfortunately didn't make it to the semi final. Ms Doherty's team lost one group game, won two and drew one ensuring their place in the semi final. In a very tough match the girls lost out to the eventual winners of the whole competition, Scoil Mhuire Crumlin. They were a super team and the girls learned alot from the game. We had numerous chances but found their goalkeeper in superb form.

Unfortunately our amazing centre back Zilan suffered a bad injury within the first two minutes of our first match. She was extremely brave and didn't panic. We wish her a speedy recovery and we will miss her over the next few weeks as she hopefully recovers for the annual teachers against the students match during Sports Week. Get well soon Zilan 💙

The girls had a really great day overall. They met teammates from Lourdes Celtic who were playing with other schools and had alot of fun hanging out and watching loads of matches. We also met Shamrock Rovers and Ireland WNT superstar Abbie Larkin just before she jetted off to play two friendlies agasint the World Champion USAWNT. She spent time with the girls getting pictures and signing autographs. Thank you Abbie!
