I hope everyone is keeping well and enjoying the sunshine. You are all doing an amazing job
with the work being sent home. I am so proud of you all, keep up the brilliant work!!innocent

Today’s revision is the letter ‘w’, here are some activities:

  • Think of sounds beginning with the letter ‘w’ – work, wet, water
  • Look around your house & see if you can spot something
    beginning with the ‘w’ sound.

  • Draw some pictures of objects that begin with the ‘w’ sound (water)

Story:

Jack and the Beanstalk


● Activity: Children can draw a picture of their favourite part in the story.

● Mute the story and read it yourself with your child, this time leaving spaces for children to join in with the repeated phrases. Reading the story again and again helps children to read more of the story themselves and builds their confidence in books and reading.

Writing:

● Make the letter 'w' using household items or things you can find in the garden for example crayons, blocks, leaves

Irish:

Bua na Cainte is the interactive programme we use to teach Gaeilge in the classroom.

● During the school closures, Edco has offered free access to Bua na Cainte for parents,
however, you will need a computer or laptop to install the software.

● To access this excellent resource, do the following:

Go to http://www.edco.ie/bua

  1. Click on the folder that matches the device you are installing it onto – mac or PC.
  2. Choose Junior Infants and click on the setup icon to install it on your device.
    It takes about 15 minutes to install.
  3. Once it is installed, you can open up the programme and enter the login details
  4. Password: trial, Username: trial

● The children are very familiar with the characters and the layout
so they should be able to navigate through it to find stories, lessons, games and songs.

Maths:

● Missing Number - Count to 10 and leave out a number - get your child to spot what number you left out.

● Practice counting forwards and back-wards up to 10. Try starting at different numbers e.g. Let’s start at 3 and count up to 8!

● Draw a number line 1-5 with your favourite colours.

  • Careful counting - touch each number as you say it. Try counting backwards!
  • Put a sticker/coin/crayon on the first number.
  • Draw a circle around the last number.
  • What number comes after 2?
  • What number comes before 5?
